So, back when I was younger I used to be a big TV watcher. It was pretty much all I did aside from hanging out with my friends, and schoolwork. Here in the present though, I rarely watch television. Just my favorite shows that air weekly and occasionally before bed. Oh, an also when my family wants to watch a movie. That's it though, but yesterday, I decided to sit out in the living room with my soon to be 1 year old niece( her birthday is in two days :] ) since we were watching her. My mom usually puts on Sprout or Nick Junior or Playhouse Disney in the morning while her mommy and daddy are working, because those are all toddler oriented television programs. So this thing called 'Yo gabba gabba' or something was on. It scared the daylights out of me. It was like subliminal mind control, despite being for good moral and such. It mostly had these strange animal like creatures teaching moral values on it, with one human, who had a bit of an over cheery disposition and a scary orange, fluffy hat. Over all, it made me miss the television shows I used to watch when I was younger. It also made me remember WHY I rarely watch television anyways. The Disney Channel has pretty much turned into a way from teen 'stars' to become musical artists and all around sluts(mostly for just the girls, but the guys are pretty whoreish themselves) It saddens me that these are the role models for young tween's, and even some who are younger. Being that I'm the youngest child, I don't have any younger siblings, but the majority of my friends do. One of my friends little sisters is around 9 or 10, and more obsessed with her looks than I am, which honestly inst much to compare to since I really don't freak out that much on how I look. The thing is this though, I'm fifteen, almost sixteen, so the world expects me to be one of those brainless girls who only care about boys and how they look(none of my friends are like this, but I do know a few people who are.) But this little girl is just that. A little girl. She shouldn't be worried about attracting guys! Its just scary. Not to mention that fact that they have things like lingerie(okay so its not really lingerie but it is lacy and they have bra's. No girl needs a bra before she even hits puberty.) for preteens. They shouldn't even have that kind of stuff for teenagers! We have no need for it! They do though. That's how sexual and uncensored the world has gotten. If or when I have children, I am raising them on the shows I watched when I was little. Like 'The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh' and 'The Little Mermaid: The Animated series' and others like 'The Animaniacs'. Dude. All of those shows were wholesome. Seriously, if they still came on I would watch them again. Even 'Blues Clues' appeals to me more than what comes on now. Oh what a world we live in.
